L’instance mondiale du football a confi\u00e9 \u00e0 l’arbitre argentin Facundo Tello la responsabilit\u00e9 de diriger le quart de finale entre la France et le Maroc, jeudi \u00e0 Boston. Un choix qui n’a rien d’anodin : Tello conna\u00eet d\u00e9j\u00e0 bien la s\u00e9lection marocaine.<\/p>\n

Qui est Facundo Tello ?<\/strong><\/p>\n

N\u00e9 le 4 mai 1982 \u00e0 Bah\u00eda Blanca, dans la province de Buenos Aires, Facundo Ra\u00fal Tello Figueroa a d\u00e9but\u00e9 sa carri\u00e8re d’arbitre presque par hasard, en accompagnant simplement un ami dans cette voie avant d’en faire sa vocation. Il fait ses premiers pas dans l’\u00e9lite argentine en 2013, \u00e0 l’occasion d’un match entre Godoy Cruz et V\u00e9lez Sarsfield, apr\u00e8s seulement quatre rencontres disput\u00e9es en deuxi\u00e8me division.<\/p>\n

Sa progression est rapide : premier \u00ab\u00a0Supercl\u00e1sico\u00a0\u00bb argentin dirig\u00e9 en 2018, statut d’arbitre international FIFA obtenu en 2019, ann\u00e9e o\u00f9 il officie notamment lors du championnat sud-am\u00e9ricain des moins de 20 ans. Reconnu pour un style ferme, tr\u00e8s physique, il n’h\u00e9site jamais \u00e0 sortir cartons jaunes et rouges quand la situation l’exige \u2014 un trait de caract\u00e8re illustr\u00e9 de fa\u00e7on spectaculaire en novembre 2022, lorsqu’il distribue dix cartons rouges lors de la finale du Trofeo de Campeones entre Boca Juniors et Racing Club.<\/p>\n

Sa carri\u00e8re compte d\u00e9j\u00e0 une dizaine de finales dirig\u00e9es, la finale de la Copa Libertadores 2023, ainsi qu’une pr\u00e9sence remarqu\u00e9e \u00e0 l’Euro 2024, o\u00f9 il devient le seul arbitre non europ\u00e9en retenu par la CONMEBOL pour officier sur le Vieux Continent.<\/p>\n

Un habitu\u00e9 des matchs des Lions de l’Atlas<\/strong><\/p>\n

Le nom de Facundo Tello n’est pas nouveau pour les Lions de l’Atlas. Sa premi\u00e8re rencontre avec la s\u00e9lection marocaine remonte \u00e0 la Coupe arabe de la FIFA 2021 au Qatar, o\u00f9 il dirige la victoire des hommes de Vahid Halilhod\u017ei\u0107 face \u00e0 la Jordanie (4-0).<\/p>\n

Mais c’est surtout le souvenir de Qatar 2022 qui reste grav\u00e9 dans la m\u00e9moire collective marocaine. Fort de deux prestations jug\u00e9es solides par la FIFA lors de la phase de groupes (Suisse-Cameroun) et des huiti\u00e8mes de finale (Cor\u00e9e du Sud-Portugal), Tello est d\u00e9sign\u00e9 pour arbitrer l’un des matchs les plus historiques du football marocain : le quart de finale contre le Portugal, remport\u00e9 1-0 par les Lions de l’Atlas, qui leur ouvre les portes d’une demi-finale in\u00e9dite.<\/p>\n
